The Koddu Name
During the 1900s in Sri Lanka, Mannar Bay was known for its pearl farming, attracting traders from across Asia and the Arab countries who came to auction pearls. The land where Koddu Kalpitiya is located is known as the 'Pearl Garden' by local people, because it is where pearl auctions took place. In those days the huts where the pearls were kept were known locally as 'Koddu' and our name pays homage to this unique pearl history.
