Community & Conservation Efforts

Community Conscious

Being a part of the local community means taking part in conservation initiatives that remain sustainable over time, where the community and its people benefit over time.

To this end, Koddu Kalpitiya sources the majority of food and products used at the property, from local suppliers. These include amenities such as laundry bags, candles and crafts, enabling local craftsmen to earn an income from sustainable tourism practices.

In addition, local artists involved in activities such as pottery and palmyrah weaving, are given the opportunity to exhibit their work in-house and add to their livelihoods.

Koddu Kalpitiya also maintains a policy of recruiting from the local area and providing full training, thus giving back and providing employment for the talented up and coming individuals in the area.

The natural surroundings are also cared for and conserved, with the upmost importance given to sustaining the eco-system that surrounds the property, ensuring that no negative impact is brought about through the hotel operations.

Environmentally Aware

We are committed to running an eco-friendly operation at all times, with initiatives that include:

  • Use of energy efficient lighting throughout the property and motion sensors in low traffic areas
  • Composting organic waste
  • Recycling non-organic waste
  • Using recyclable materials and avoiding packaged items whenever possible
  • Protecting the mangroves and cleaning the shoreline
  • Using non-toxic cleaning supplies and banning the use of plastic bags in housekeeping

We promote responsible tourism and educate visitors with a number of initiatives:
